Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they begin the process of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham player is out of work meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
