President Trump Invites Relatives of Shot Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Response
Attendees gathered over the past few days at the high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident led the administration to suspend asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the audience at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
