Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
